How to Build Unity

     Knowing about Christian Unity and building it are not the same. Knowledge can be gathered quickly, but building spiritual unity requires understanding the Bible, human nature and our own weaknesses. Unfortunately denominationalism has created divisions that do not exist in the heart of God. He sees only "one body," "one people," "one leadership," and "one Church" in every locality. Therefore, we must move away from man-made divisions to Christ-centered unity.

     Knowing how to build unity requires: (1) a good spiritual strategy, (2) time to work with believers and leaders, (3) much prayer, (4) a heart commitment to achieve it even during the difficult times, (5) spiritual fortitude to press on with Christ's will until it happens, and (6) love that can see beyond the problems to the reality that He is calling into existence. It is not easy to achieve it, but it is possible.

     In order to build unity, we must be "proactive," that is, engage in activities that will build unity.

     Here are the main keys to building Christian unity in your church and community:

1. Pray for it. Pray influences the spiritual atmosphere on earth and pray for His Kingdom to come with unity.

2. Tell others. Tell believers around you to pray for it and establish prayer groups in churches to pray for it.

3. Live it in your relationships with other believers by supporting them spiritually and practically.

4. Speak with you pastors to pray for and preach about it and manifest it in your fellowships.

5. Visit other churches to pray for and with them for it, and to share the great blessings of unity that Christ desires.

6. Call pastors and Christian leaders together in your area to discuss it, pray for it, and build a strategy to achieve it.

7. Never speak against other Christians, but bless them and go to them in private if there is a sin problem in their life.

8. Walk in all the "one another" passages in the New Testament [listed on next page];

9. And above all, manifest practical Christian love for all other believers irrespective of race, ethnic background, social status or educational level.

We are all under grace; therefore, everyone is growing at a different spiritual rate. Unity does not require complete conformity in all beliefs; but it  does require a commitment to Jesus Christ and His Word.
